Hello all,

To celebrate DeviantArt's 17th Birthday on August 7th, projecteducate wanted to bring to you a special contest that is rife with meaning. We wanted to give you an opportunity to show us what your journey has been in the realm of art, but also on DeviantArt. Please read the information below to find out what exactly the prompt of this contest is, what the rules are, how to participate, and what you could win!

Your Artistic Journey

Whether you've been creating art for 3 months or 15 years, you've got a story to tell. You've gone through a journey, an evolution, you've learned a lot, you've become a better artist, you've made mistakes, you've dealt with frustrations. Not everything was easy, not everything was hard. You started out as one person and you might be someone entirely different right now. Your personal life affected your artistic life, and vice versa. This is what this contest wants to hit right into. We want you to reflect on your time as an artist, no matter what art, no matter what level you're at.

Remember, your artistic journey can be portrayed in millions of different ways, this is open to your interpretation. You could depict a symbol of your journey, or a literal transition of your work, or a portrait of how you've changed, or recreate something you had made as your first piece of art, to show us how much you've evolved. The possibilities are endless.

For this aspect of the contest, you submit a normal contest entry, aka a photograph, painting, drawing, comic, craft, film, etc.

Your Journey on DeviantArt

DeviantArt most likely had some sort of affect on your artistic journey. You might have made friends here who helped you better your art or better yourself as a person. You might have found inspiration on this site that helped you discover your niche. You might have benefited from tutorials on DeviantArt that helped you improve. You might have found an audience here for your commission work which has helped you financially. Your journey on DeviantArt is a part of your artistic journey and thus we want you to reflect on it as well.

For this aspect of the contest you write about your journey on DeviantArt in a journal.

Simply put, this is an art + meme contest.

The Rules:

To enter this contest you must submit: A deviation (your piece of artwork: painting, drawing, photograph, craft, etc) and a journal in which you write about your journey on DeviantArt.
Your entry (both piece of artwork and written journal) must be NEW, created after this journal was posted.
In the description of your deviation you should include a link to this journal, explaining that your artwork is an entry to projecteducate's Your Artistic Journey contest for DeviantArt's 17th Birthday.
If you feel like it might not be clear to an outside viewer, you should include a paragraph in your deviation description explaining how your piece of art relates to the topic of your artistic journey.
This is an ALL MEDIUMS contest.
You submit your entry by linking to your deviation and journal in a comment on this journal.
If your submission does not follow these rules it will not be accepted as an entry.
