Hey all,

I'm starting to compile all the info I need to apply for Graduate school (for Fall 2016). The biggest thing for me is to make wise choices in terms of which schools I apply to. I'm applying to international relations/studies programs (usually emphasis on development, human rights, or just international affairs). I went to school in D.C. briefly for undergrad (American University) but had to leave because I couldn't afford staying there. I'm reapplying to AU and considering many other schools in D.C. but also in France, the U.K. or the U.S. in general.

I want to make the right choices with my schools, after all, the goal is to get accepted somewhere...I was wondering if anyone had experience contacting admissions offices, or heads of departments/programs to discuss acceptance into their school? I'd like to ask if based on my resume and overall academic history I'd be a good fit for some of these programs. I remember doing this for undergrad with AU, but I'm still a bit unsure about calling or emailing admissions about it. I'd just really like to be able to talk to the head of the program, or maybe an assistant, who could tell me "oh yeah, your profile is quite similar to most of the students we accept" or "based on the information you've provided I'm not quite sure as to whether our program would be suited for you." You know what I mean? I know nobody can tell you "yes we will accept you" of course, but I'd just like to get some advice and guidance somehow...

Any input/advice?

I wish I could give you some advice, but I'm still a couple years off from that.
