1 deviant said Modeling: Do's and Dont'sPeople & Portrait Photography
Here's a short piece on the do's and dont's of modeling, or rather some basic tips on how to model to the best of your abilities, and make the best out of your shootings. This advice is coming from the perspective of a portrait photographer, who has dealt closely with models of all types (amateur, professional), and who has seen the good and the bad.
DO: Look at yourself in a mirror, study your features, try different expressions, model poses for yourself. As silly as it may seem, it helps. It helps for you to see what you look like, what works for your face and body, and what does not. Practicing in front of the camera is great, but you don't need to necessarily be in a shoot to practice. A lot can be done beforehand with simple things like this.
DO: Take care of your body as well as you can. And by this I do not mean, go on crazy diets or anything of the sort. But eat healthy, take care of your skin, your nails,

1 deviant said Lighting in Portrait PhotographyPeople and Portraits week
Hello everyone,
I'm writing this tutorial of sorts, for all of you portrait photographers out there seeking advice about the lighting in your photographs. First off let me be clear in saying that I am no expert, or rather I do not claim to be, I sometimes do things in unusual ways, and my tips and advice are definitely not the only ones you should follow. This journal is just me giving you my take on how to get great lighting for your shots :)
1. Never shoot when the sun is at its highest peak.
Depending on where you live and your climate, this might vary, but I usually never shoot between the hours of 12-4 unless I'm shooting indoors, or it's a cloudy day. If you're doing an outdoors shoot and the sun is blasting on your model, you are very unlikely to get good results. Not only will it be uncomfortable for your model, and make it difficult to pose with a natural expression (sun in your eyes, worst feeling in the world),

No deviants said Eating Disorder AwarenessWelcome to an article about eating disorders, aimed at spreading awareness, advice, knowledge, and support into the community.
What is an eating disorder?
There are many known eating disorders in today's world; anorexia and bulimia are the most notorious ones. An eating disorder has to do with mental, emotional, and physical issues in regards to food and ones own body. There is no perfect description of what an eating disorder is, however, because every individual lives it in a different way. The only important distinction I can make is that an eating disorder in many ways cannot be controlled, it is an illness, and not a choice.
"Eating disorders are serious, potentially life-threatening conditions that affect a person’s emotional and physical health. They are not just a “fad” or a “phase.” People do not just “catch” an eating disorder for a period of time.  They are real, complex, and devastating

No deviants said GDD Interviews: Gwendolyn12 on Manga/AnimeHello everyone!
Welcome to the sixth of many Community Volunteer interviews! Community Volunteers are responsible for many things here on DA, one of them being Daily Deviations. Since Daily Deviations are the focus of this group, we thought you might enjoy interviews of the folks in control of the features! The sixth edition is with Gwendolyn12, one of our Anime/Manga CVs, we hope you'll enjoy the read!
1. Why did you choose to become a CV? How long has it been, and is it what you expected it to be like?
Well... I've been into suggesting DD's and following them since my earliest days on dA. As time passed - as it is natural - I started wishing to become a CV. I grew up, became more mature, realized it'd be a good experience and I'd enjoy having something to contribute to this gallery I love - and here I am! :D (Big Grin)
I've been a CV since early September, 2013. Roughly 10 months by now. Wow, quite a while!

Meet Mrs-Durden - AKA Nina... Mrs-Durden has been on deviantART for over four years and more recently became a member of the communityrelations volunteer team for Artistic Nude Photography!
Tell us a bit about yourself, how you got started with photography and in general how you ventured into portrait photography?
I have a bit of an odd story when it comes to why I got started with photography. I have a photographic memory, and I've always been fascinated in a strange way with the whole concept of “sight”, “seeing”, and being able to capture things the way they appear to you. When I was a kid my great aunt died of Alzheimer’s, and I was always a bit afraid that one day I'd find out I have it too, and I'd forget everything. So I started becoming a bit of a hoarder, collecting receipts, old toys, price tags, books, emails, print screening conversations, etc etc. This obsession trans

To share what you loveHello everyone,

It's been such a long time since I've done a feature just for the heck of it, without any purpose whatsoever other than showcasing things I love. I've been so busy on here with young-photo-club, Death-Chicks, GetDailyDeviations, and my own Group Spotlight features that I haven't been able to do a feature of random things I've seen and adored here on DA! So here it goes!

To share what you love IIHey everyone,

A little while ago I posted an art feature called To share what you love, because it had been a long time since I had done a feature just for the heck of it, filled with works I love, unaffiliated with any of the groups I'm an admin of, or any other specific purpose for the DA community. I figured I would do another one, just to share some amazing work that I love. So here it goes:

Group Spotlight vol.1Hello everyone,
I'd like to start a new series of features where I spotlight a group that contributes to the DeviantArt community somehow either by promoting unknown art, doing regular features, holding competitions, promoting critique/comment systems, showcasing resources to help members improve, etc. I'm hoping to possibly bring to light some great groups here on dA and possibly attract them new members or watchers, by showcasing deviations from their gallery after a brief introduction of the group in itself. Enjoy and :+fav: please!
:Iconsoftness-art:
Softness-Art is a group centered around photography that is "soft", "sweet", "emotive". Those are the words I would use to qualify the photography that they submit to their folders. It's a group where you will find touching, beautiful, delicate yet strong, and emotional photos from some talented photographers. They are fairly strict when it comes to quality, but remain fair, and simply wish to share great photography wit

Trees with character is a group for tree loving people. They accept photography, digital media, traditional art, and artisan crafts giving their watchers a variety of tree centered art to enjoy! They've hosted many contests in the past, and are about to announce a new one. The quality of art has a wide range, accepting both amateurs and professionals, and I'd recommend any nature an

:iconhigh-quality:
High Quality was created about 6 months ago and has been doing extremely well ever since. Every week they feature one of their members in a journal on their page, and while they are named "High Quality", do not let that convince you they're an elitist group, because they are not. They regularly accept unknown art, or art from unknown artists which is quite

About Me

Who is Mrs-Durden?

You can call me Mrs-Durden or Nina, either one is fine. Nina is my nickname, and as most of you will notice I use different nicknames and fake last names online because I believe in privacy even in the world we live in now.

I'm 20 years old, I'm from France yet was born in Athens, Greece, and am currently residing in the United States to attend University. I'm most often described as a sassy angry French woman, which may not transpire through DeviantART that often, but is actually quite accurate.

I have a short temper, I don't like dealing with people's crap. I'm a very honest and straightforward person, I may seem harsh at times but I do have a heart deep, deep down. No, but really. I'm nice. But I'm also just a lost little kid in this gigantic world who doesn't know what she's gonna do with her life.

I love portrait photography, art (esp. neoclassicism or baroque), cinematography, music, traveling, writing, a lot of things really. I'm a history, international relations, and political science major...if that can tell you anything about myself and my interests. And that's all I can think of saying, so here, look at my face!

I cannot imagine how much time you put into having to correct submissions, take them out entirely, or just send messages to the appropriate people for their errors, but thank you for what you do. :)   Volunteers like you make this website such the enjoyment I am able to make out of it. I enjoy art of any kind, and love the fact that it gets sorted a specific way, not just for rules or limits, but also because of how well organized it tends to be.:hug:
